2014 First Lines: a Year in Review

my calendar for the new year

As usual at this time of year, I love to review and share my reading/blogging year with First Lines. Simply put, we share the first line of the first post of each month and see what that overview tells us about our year. Often it can be an uncannily accurate summary.

I've seen a few bloggers posting theirs already -- if you haven't yet, please do, and share your post so we can all see it! And if you have, feel free to share a link in the comments as well.

Anyhow, without further ado, here is my 2014 in First Lines:

January
I reread Griffin & Sabine last summer, many years after my first experience with it.
[from Griffin & Sabine Continued]

February
I discovered this small Italian novel set in Norway by chance, in my local used bookstore some time ago
[From His Mother's House]

March
I don't know where February went...days pass in a blur when you're busy, I guess!
[From Mrs. Miniver]

April
This is another novel of an Anglo-Irish family, but one quite different from my recent read, Molly Keane's The Rising Tide
[From The Last September]

May
I've had a unscheduled, unplanned and unintended blog absence lately...I'm not sure why.
[From The Return of the Reader]

June
And now, a long overdue addition to my Cover Designs series, in which I attempt to match up a book cover with appropriate pattern & fabric to knock it off ;)
[From Cover Designs! #5]

July
In these parts it was a holiday yesterday, a national holiday to celebrate Canada Day!
[From Canada Day!]

August
And now for the last of the three novels in a row featuring obsessive mother-son relationships... but this one was a little different.
[From Death & the Dancing Footman]

September
It's that time again! September 1st and time for the Ninth RIP (Readers Imbibing Peril) Challenge!
[From It's Time...for RIP IX!]

October
Lance Blunt can't read.
[From Emberton]

November
This was another book that I read during last month's Readathon, and one that I've had to think about.
[From Between the Acts]

December
I can't believe how fast time is going... I've missed being on my own blog, and visiting anyone else's over the past month.
[From Literary Gardens, Quotable Quotes]

**************************************

So, a little bit of Readathoning and challenge reading, many book reviews of course, and a higher preponderance of blogging gaps this year than previously. I've found that the speedy passage of time has affected everything this year -- I feel like everything has been harder to keep up to. So I'm really looking forward to a peaceful holiday break to recalibrate a little. Something else I noticed doing this year's round-up is that I'm the queen of obvious blog titles ;)

My 'resolution' for next year is to be a little more active here. I've been blogging now for 9 years and I really love it. I don't want to get out of the habit! I hope to visit many of you in 2015.

  1. Melwyk, I enjoyed your First Lines, and like how you included your blog titles (they are fine--I may follow suit next year). It seems like blogging about books is a natural, in some ways, doesn't it? Anyway, I like the collage that this meme creates of your year in reading and writing. Here's to a great year of reading, writing, and blogging ahead!

    1. I changed it up a little this year...but still love the basic concept, as you put it, of creating a collage of the blogging year. Wishing you a great reading, writing & blogging year as well!

  3. I don't know what has happened to 2014. Very uneven blogging year for me too. I'm with you - here's hoping I get my blog mojo back next year. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!

    1. Yes, the whole year was very 'on & off' in my blogging world. Let's hope that 2015 means renewed blogability for us both!
