Cathy Marie Buchanan, author of The Day the Falls Stood Still (the first book in my list of Niagara stories) sent me a link to the cover images for her upcoming novel. They are all quite beautiful -- but it made me think that it would be interesting to see whether bookish people like ourselves are really influenced by covers in our reading choices. Which image would most influence you to pick up this book if you didn't know anything about it? (I really love the first two).
Canadian Cover
UK Cover
US Cover
I like the third, actually - it's more atmospheric than the other two. (Sorry...)
ReplyDeleteI like the first one the best!
ReplyDeleteI like the first one best, too.
ReplyDeleteI like the first one, I think.
ReplyDeleteKnowing what the book is about from your post the other day, I am left wondering why the second option. The other two are a lot clearer!
I don't like the UK cover. I think I'm leaning more toward the first but I like the first and third almost equally.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering if the second one doesn't use an image of the Falls because it's UK? Not as familiar a sight to Europeans?
ReplyDeleteI like the first one best - I don't like the UK one. I think the Falls are a well known sight here in the UK - well known to me at any rate.
ReplyDeleteI flipped back and forth between the first and the third for a bit, but ultimately settled on the first. I like the darker tone of the third, but the first better conveys the awe-inspiring power of the Falls.
ReplyDeleteI'm a rebel, I like the middle picture. I liked not seeing the face of the woman.
ReplyDeleteConsidering what the book is really about, I'd pick the third cover. To me, the first one looks like a fantasy-book and I would be expecting sorcerers, and the second one looks like chick-lit.
ReplyDeleteThey are all very good, but I tend to prefer the top cover. The UK cover seems very contemporary but they must know their market.
ReplyDeleteI think the Canadians win!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the first. The UK cover is so bland it makes me want to kick someone. I'd walk right past it.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the Canadian cover! The second one is bland (I have a feeling I've seen a dozen similar covers), whereas the third one is too muted, IMO.
