As I recently said in my review, this is a beautiful book about the love of childhood reading; she talks about her childhood passion for the Narnia books as well as giving us some biographical information about Lewis and some literary criticism as well. And it's a gorgeous cover!

There are so many favorite moments in Narnia...but I think my favorite favorite is in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader when Eustace becomes a dragon and Aslan has to remove the dragon skin layer by layer by layer with his claws.
ReplyDeleteI had a similar experience reading the Narnia Series - loved the first few, but then lost steam. I had no idea about the Christian symbolism until I grew up, and have been reluctant to re-read the books because I am afriad that the dogma will ruin the magic I loved as a child. My favorite moment was that first walk through the wardrobe into Narnia. This book sounds like it would be a great explanation of what I was missing while still appreciating the charm of reading it as a child
ReplyDeleteI like the coronation scene in the first Narnia book. I'm not sure why, I think when I was a kid I just loved the idea that I could possibly be a royal like they got to be :)

I have read the Narnia books countless times. It's so hard to choose just one favorite moment! But I would say that one of my very favorites is from The Silver Chair -- Puddleglum's speech to the Lady of the Green Kirtle right after he stamps out her magical fire.

Lots of favorite moments to choose from, but I guess the one that has really stuck with me is in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader when they see the Sea People - only because I had recurring dreams about swimming with them when I was a kid. Hmm, I wish I could have that dream again sometime!! :)

ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since I reread this series but Lucy's first meeting with Mr. Tumnus under the lamp post is still a wonderfully vivid image in my head.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite moment is the same as Becky's, so I'll say another fave is when the Pevensies are wandering around the ruins of Cair Paravel in the beginning of Prince Caspian. This book is on my TBR list, so it would be great to win. Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is also the same as Becky's, so I'll offer another one: dinner with the Beavers in TLTWatW. The fresh-caught fish, the tea, and the hot, hot marmalade roll are so perfectly comforting in the midst of snow and danger.
ReplyDeleteI've never read any of the Narnia series, ever since being traumatized by the cartoon version of the story which was shown to me when I was six. But now, nearly a quarter of a century later, I would now like to acquire a favourite Narnia moment, and perhaps this book would be fine inspiration??
