8 Random Things

I've been tagged! -- for this 8 Random things about Me meme, by Jill at Individual Take, and by Eva at Striped Armchair. So, quickly, 8 random facts (I will not vouch for their level of interest...)

1. I began reading at age 3 (and haven't stopped since)

2. I am the classic "middle child".

3. I can read upside down as well as right side up; I actually finish crosswords faster if I work on the clues upside down (I still have to write right side up of course!)

4. I am a chocolate fanatic. Some people have even creatively nicknamed me "Chocolate" because of it. In related news, my husband inexplicably prefers fruit to chocolate.

5. I studied the violin for 6 years of my youth. Still enjoy it, though having had classical violinists as roomates during university I realize my vast limitations.

6. I am trying to learn to play the ukelele.

7. I own 87 vegetarian cookbooks.

8. I make the best vegan chocolate chip cookies you've ever tasted!

And here are the rules to be followed:
1: Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
2: People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post these rules.
3: At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names.
4: Don't forget to leave them a comment and tell them they're tagged, and to read your blog.

I've tried following the rules, really I have, but there are not 8 untagged people left out there! So, if you have not been tagged yet, and you wish to participate, please consider this your very own tag.

  1. 87 vegetarian cookbooks?! That's awesome-I only have 7. Love them though. :)

  2. Do you think the ability to read upside-down could be related to being a middle child? I also possess both qualities.

I'll have to think about whether I want to be tagged for this meme or not. I'll let you know.

  3. I also studied violin for 6 years. Can't play it now but wish I still remembered how. Who knows maybe one of these day's I'll take it up again :)

I'm a chocoholic too and right now I want some!

  4. Eva - I have an addiction... :)

Petunia - I'd be interested to see what you'd say if you decide to take on this meme.
Maybe you're on to something with the middle child/reading upside down syndrome. Hmmm, something for a psychologist to study!

Iliana - Another violinist! Difficult to keep in practice without a violin, isn't it?
And the sad effects of all this talk of chocolate - I'm typing while waiting for my batch of chocolate chip cookies to come out of the oven!

  7. I saw that you bought the "Vegan Cupcakes" book recently. How is it? I really like the authors - somehow the whole post punk vegan cooks thing is just cool. And I love that blog of their with the cupcakes. So fun!

  8. I love cookbooks, I just don't like to cook. Strange but tue. I love chocolate, too. Dark preferably. With rasperry, too.

  9. Literary Feline & Danielle - I know there are many of us chocolate lovers out there!

Dark Orpheus - I just bought it so haven't made anything yet, but they look so good! I want to make the peanut butter ones first. I have their first book too, Vegan with a Vengeance. I love the post punk vegan thing. Have you tried the 3 punk vegetarian cookbooks by Sarah Kramer?

  10. I don't know if you know, but according to my computer, you have the comments turned off for the Emily Carr post you just posted. I wanted to say that I was in Toronto when this exhibit was there, and I really wanted to go, but since I didn't know it was going to be there, we didn't have it planned into the schedule :( I bought one of her books, though, her autobiography. I plan to try and read more from her eventually, and I also really want to read her diaries because I like reading people's diaries (in book fashion).

  11. Kailana - Oops, thanks for the sharp eye. I too wish I could have seen it in TO. Enjoy the book; I like her writing style and she had such a full life!

  12. I love chocolate too. Have you had Green and Blacks chocolate? Expensive but worth it. And I thought we had a lot of vegetarian/vegan cookbooks at my house! We don't even come close to your 87! But my husband, the cook at our house, would argue with you over who has the best vegan chocolate chip cookies. Maybe you two could have a cook off and I'll be the taster :)

  13. Absolutely fascinating, Melanie! Doesn't 87 books in *any* given subject make you something of an expert in that subject?

  14. Stefanie - Green & Blacks, mmmm. How very selfless of you to offer to adjudicate a taste test. :)

Jill - that's right, I need that many because I'm trying to become an expert! Or I'm just obsessive...

  15. What can I say? Give, give, give, never take ;)

  16. 87 is quite impressive! Do you have a favorite - or ten? I'm always looking for good vegetarian cookbooks. I also like to say that I moved to Switzerland to be closer to my chocolate supplier!
