Journaling - a conversation with yourself

Although I love blogging -- the immediacy is great -- I also love journaling the old fashioned way, with pen and paper. There are important differences; blogging is communication, journaling is talking to myself, saying things I don't always want everyone to hear.
There are many guidebooks to this subject; some of my current favourites are:

One to One: Self-Understanding Through Journal Writing by Christina Baldwin
The New Diary by Tristine Rainier
Voice of Her Own: Women and the Journal Writing Journey by Marlene Schwiy
Journal to the Self: Twenty-Two Paths to Personal Growth by Kathleen Adams

There is also a wonderful Canadian-based website with prompts and programs, which I enjoy quite often. There is nothing like sitting down with an empty page for some extended self expression to get to know yourself a little better.
Explore some of these prompts and programs here

  1. I'm both a blogger and a journaller. They're very, very different - as you say, in a journal, you say things that you wouldn't want anyone to hear - especially since they might not be, in the strictest sense, true. They might be expressions of momentary anger, attempts to work out problems, fantasies - Nothing can replace paper and pen.

    Thanks for the website suggestion!
